The Weaning Process

Amy here...This is simply a post for me to remember when we started trying to wean Peyton...may not be very interesting but read on if you desire!!!

When we were at our checkup appt last week with Dr. Karp we discussed how long Peyton should nurse. She said no longer than 15 months. Well, Peyton is on his way to being 14 months old and still nurses 3 times a day...once in the early morning, nap time and then bedtime. So, I have no issues with him continuing to nurse, but I also do not want to have a child that is asking for it either! So, this coming Thursday night, Kevin and I are having our first evening away from Peyton...and Nana is going to be the first one to have to put him to bed! So we decided instead of the the first time not nursing at night being with her, we are trying to start the process now. Last night, Kevin took up him and rocked him right to sleep. First night = Success! Second night = we will see how it goes....

This was the exact same age we weaned Soren (13 1/2 months), and we did it exactly the same way. Dave rocked Soren to sleep the first few nights, and then after a few times of that, either one of us was able to do it without Soren "asking" for milk (a.k.a. nuzzling Mommy's shirt). Hope it goes smoothly for you. And have fun on your night out!!
